Every month I post my updated net worth for those that are interested in following my progress. I have been tracking my net worth online since January 2006. I enjoy compiling the numbers each month, and doing so keeps me motivated, focused, and accountable.
Well, I sort of hoped I could end the year at $2 million, but fell just a little short. All in all, it was a good year where my net worth increased nearly half a million dollars from January 1st.
There has been an interesting pattern where the odd years 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023 have been the best years for my net worth while the even years in between have not been great. If that pattern holds, 2024 could be disappointing. Hopefully 2024 will break the pattern but in any case, I don’t expect to see a repeat of 2023. With markets at all time highs, I expect moderate gains at best.
And hopefully 2023 will be the last time my retirement accounts drop below $1 million. It was a little frustrating to break a million in October of 2021, fall below $800k in 2022, and not get back into a million until November of 2023. We’ll see what the market has to say about that. All part of the game.
